A few months after the Abraham Accords were signed in September 2020, Morocco signed a normalization agreement with Israel. Since then, relations between the Jewish state and the North African Moslem country have solidified and flourished. Significantly, there are an estimated half-million to a million Moroccan Jews or Jews of Moroccan descent living in Israel — making them the second-largest or largest community in the country.
Quote: “At a joint press briefing Monday, Moroccan Minister of Industry and Trade Ryad Mezzour said the ‘groundbreaking meeting’ with the Israeli delegation headed by Barbivai ‘created the opportunity for us to identify regions and channels for bilateral industrial and commercial cooperation and partnership,’ according to a ministry statement. ‘After more than a year of renewed diplomatic ties, Morocco and Israel laid the foundations for an innovative, multi-dimensional partnership,’ [Mezzour] added. ‘This is a new day where we embark on an intense, fruitful, and beneficial partnership for both parties.’ ”
