The Golan Heights, in the far northeast of Israel, was captured from Syria in the 1967 Six Day War. Before then, the Syrians regularly bombarded Israeli communities in the valley below. The Golan is a land of beauty: Eagles nest at Gamla, deer roam at Odem, while humans gaze at the spectacular landscape from Mount Bental. In Hamat Gader, natural hot springs have been used by man for thousands of years. In more recent years, the snow at Mount Hermon serves as Israel’s only ski resort.

Quote: “When people think of the Golan Heights, they often think of the early spring when the hills are covered with green and colorful blossoms, and the streams are full of gushing cold water. This is one of the greatest areas to vacation, and there is no shortage of places to stay, restaurants to eat at, and trails to hike.”
