The Gottesman Family Israel Aquarium in Jerusalem, Israel’s first aquarium, focuses on the preservation of aquatic habitats and the environment in Israel. The aquarium was designed in accordance with recommendations from Israel’s National Biodiversity Plan. These recommendations emphasize the urgent need for the conservation of the aquatic environment in Israel. Habitats, fish, coral reefs, and all the other sea creatures are exposed to many ecological threats — sea and beach pollution, overfishing, and ongoing pressure from various other causes, such as tourism, commerce, desalination, and gas and oil drilling.

Quote: “A visit to the aquarium includes a passage through Israel’s four seas — the Mediterranean, the Sea of Galilee, the Dead Sea, and the Red Sea. On your visit, you will encounter approximately 200 species of creatures that live in the sea at the various spectacular exhibits. You will be able to see up-close the famous clownfish, boxfish, groupers, eels, seahorses, soft corals, various jellyfish, sharks, and many others.”
