The Israel Museum is an art and archaeological museum in Jerusalem. It was established in 1965 as Israel’s largest and foremost cultural institution, and one of the world’s leading encyclopedic museums. It is situated on a hill in the Givat Ram neighborhood of Jerusalem, adjacent to the Bible Lands Museum, the Knesset, the Israeli Supreme Court, and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

NAME THAT ISRAELI

This Jew died in 1923, so strictly speaking he was not an Israeli; however, he was instrumental in the eventual establishment of Israel. On hearing Theodore Herzl’s plans for creating a Jewish state, he is said to have declared, “If you are insane, we are insane together. Count on me!” Herzl and he are credited with founding the modern Zionist movement. A thoroughfare in Tel Aviv is named after him.
